This compact 4-day itinerary is built for travelers whose primary goal is a mountain gorilla encounter, without the time commitment of a longer safari circuit. Departing Kampala, the journey heads west to the remote, densely forested southwest corner of Uganda, home to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest and Mgahinga Gorilla National Park — two of the very few places in the world where mountain gorillas can be tracked in their natural habitat. Two days are dedicated to gorilla tracking, with permits allocated based on availability.
Depart Kampala early in the morning, driving west toward the impenetrable forests of Uganda's southwest corner.
A full day dedicated to tracking mountain gorillas through the forest.
A second day dedicated to tracking mountain gorillas. Availability of permits determines the exact location, so early booking is strongly recommended.
Depart early in the morning and travel directly back to Kampala, arriving before 5:00 PM.
