Zanzibar's beaches get all the attention, and fairly so, but the island has a lot more going on than the postcard shots suggest.
Stone Town
Give Stone Town a full day, not a rushed morning stop. The old town's narrow alleys, carved doorways, and rooftop restaurants are worth lingering in — and it's the easiest place on the island to get a genuine feel for Zanzibar's Swahili, Arab, and Indian influences layered together.
A proper spice tour
Half-day spice farm tours are everywhere, but the quality varies a lot. Ask specifically for one that includes a walk through an active farm, not just a market stall — you'll actually see cloves, vanilla, and cardamom growing rather than just tasting them afterward.
Snorkeling beyond the resort strip
Mnemba Atoll gets the marketing budget, and it's genuinely good, but the reef off Kizimkazi and the sandbanks near Nungwi are quieter and just as worth a morning.
