Village visits are one of the most requested add-ons on Kenyan safaris, and also one of the easiest to get wrong.
What a staged visit looks like
Large tour-bus-only villages set up specifically for quick photo stops, an entry fee, a short dance performance, then straight to a craft stall. Not necessarily dishonest, but not a real cultural exchange either.
What we arrange instead
Smaller, pre-arranged visits with communities we've worked with for years, where a guide translates properly rather than rushing through a script, and where photos are only taken with actual consent, not assumed.
How to tell the difference when booking
Ask directly: how many visitors go through this village a day? A number in the dozens, not hundreds, is a good sign.
